Link your vehicle for live data
In this section, we'll go over how you can make ABRP an even more powerful tool for EV route planning by connecting your vehicle via a live data source to the app.

Why live data?
When you connect your EV to your ABRP account, you will get the live State of Charge and many other parameters into the ABRP app in real-time. (Exactly which parameters depend on the vehicle and our knowledge of it.) This means that as you drive your EV, ABRP will constantly update the plan in the background and tell you if there is any reason to change plans. For example, if you consume more energy than initially planned, ABRP will find a new charger to stop it sooner. Also, traffic, weather, and charger availability will affect the updated plan if you are an ABRP Premium member.
With an OBD connection, we get detailed enough information about your vehicle to make a unique, calibrated consumption model for you. This means we will automatically adapt the plans according to how your vehicle behaves, including anything that affects consumption, such as fancy wheels, a roof box, or a trailer!
How to save and link a vehicle for live data
This is how you may link your car:
Go into:
Settings > Car model(click the selected car right below βPlan settingsβClick the button
Select a new carat the bottom of the listSpecify the vehicle model
Now, when the correct model is selected, click it once more in the list of settings.
You'll see three buttons below the named vehicle model:
Edit settings,Live data, andSave. You can either directly clickLive data, and weβll ask you to save the car, or first save it by clickingSave. Now, when youβve got a saved vehicle, weβll present you with the available linking options for the selected vehicle model. This menu can also be accessed by clicking
Edit settings. Select a linking option and follow the instructions.
How to link an already existing saved vehicle for live data
If, on the other hand, you have already had a saved vehicle created, you may, of course, link it:
Go into:
Settings > Car modelClick the vehicle model. Make sure to select the correct vehicle
Click the
Live databutton just below the selected vehicleSelect a linking option in the list
Follow the linking instructions
Combining different live data sources
You may combine one in-car live data source and one over-the-air live data source. In-car sources are basically options for which you'd have to be in the car to be able to obtain data, such as the ABRP OBD connection, where the OBD transmits data directly to your phone via Bluetooth.
Usually, such connections provide better-quality data, allowing for logging activities and calibrating consumption. However, the downside is, of course, that one cannot check on the charging when not in the car. Therefore, it is possible to link an OTA source in addition, which lets one fetch data remotely.
