Optimal routing: default plan is not the fastest alternative

Problem: With Optimal routing selected, the plan ABRP shows first is often slower than an alternative further down the list. The fastest plan has to be found by scrolling through all the alternatives.

Settings: 450 Wh/mi reference consumption, 110% speed, 80 mph max, 0% degradation, CCS1 + NACS, Optimal routing, depart 100%, 20% arrival, fixed weekend departure date.

Route: Lynnwood, WA → Tesla Supercharger Salem, OR → Riverside Inn, Grants Pass, OR (overnight, full charge) → Fresno, CA area.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Plan the route above with Cadillac Escalade IQ.

  2. Note the total time of the default plan.

  3. Swipe or scroll through the alternatives and compare their times.

  4. Repeat with Hummer EV Pickup 3X and GMC Sierra EV 2025 Max Range.

Actual:

  • Escalade IQ: the default plan is 16h15. A 15h47 plan, 28 min faster, is the 3rd alternative.

  • Hummer EV 3X: the default plan is 16h24. A 15h39 plan, 45 min faster, is the last alternative.

  • Sierra EV Max and Silverado EV Max: the default plan takes a longer route via I-5 / Los Banos. The faster CA-99 route (Chico, Sacramento) appears only among the alternatives. Other profiles, such as the Sierra ER, default to CA-99.

Expected: With Optimal selected, the fastest plan is the default, or the alternatives are sorted by total time.
