Android Automotive app crashes on startup ABRP v6.1.8
I have an issue with ABRP not opening on AAOS in my XC40 Recharge.
The app crashed out back to the home screen on starting.
I have uninstalled the app and re-installed - same behaviour.
I have restarted the IHU - same behaviour.
The app used to work fine when I had a Polestar 2 but now it seems rather tempramental.
- Where does this happen?
- ABRP version number (found at bottom of settings menu)

Can you provide detail as to how it is fixed OR wait for confirmation from the affected users before changing the status to completed please?

we got feedback from some users, that the crash on start is now fixed. So if you still experience crashes or anything else does not work, it is probably related to a different issue. What problems do you have? Did you install 6.1.13 already?

As beta or as main branch? (I experience the same problem) I am beta tester on Android but never get the beta updates on my automotive polestar 2, any chance this can fixed from your end?

@Guillaume Albert Automotive is released as a different app and unrelated to what you can download for your phone. We only have an internal test version (that you can only download when you are invited to the test version) and the release version for Automotive.

ABRP crashes on Android auto with Volvo ex40 2025
Since the last update ABRP crashes on startup in Android auto. I Deleted the app and reinstalled with no luck. On launch the logo appears then goes to the map page, but can’t draw the map and then crashes. The app seems to work in the CarPlay shell. Running software 3.7 in the car for a bit so was not an issue there. Not sure if ABRP got updated in Android on the last software issue of late November.

You mention using an iPhone, but you say this happens on Android Auto? Do you not mean Android Automotive? Or do you have an Android device connected for Android Auto?

The car uses Android Automotive that is where the crash happens. When I plug my iPhone in the car, Android Automotive lets me use CarPlay in a shell, and ABRP seems to work no problem. ABRP crashes when I’m using it natively in Android Automotive. The car let’s me use CarPlay only while I’m wired into the USB socket, so not practical. Android Automotive needs no phone.

App stopped working, crashes in Polestar 2
Stop working in Polestar 2. Try to reinstall, did't help. Delet cach and profil, didn't help. This happen after the last update.

Hi, only the startup logo then the app close. The app work before last update. Can not take any photo because the app crash in just a second

We have just released ABRP 6.1.10 beta on Google Play. If you go to the ABRP description in Google Play, scroll down and join the beta program, you should be able to install this one. Please let us know if this fixes the crash for you!

Hi. I did a clean install of the 6.1.11 version but it crash exactly the same way as the others. Is this some issiu with Polestar 2 year 2021 or is it the same for other cars?

Seems to happen on Volvo and Polestar only (but both belong to the same company in the end, so might be the same issue). We saw a spike of the crashes shortly after Polestar released the 3.7.0 Automotive version. We see the same crashes on 6.1.2, 6.1.8 and 6.1.9 but we can’t reproduce them at all. Other Automotive vehicles, like a Renault Scenic work perfectly fine, so we start thinking that it might be related to an update of the car infotainment. Do you remember doing an Automotive update at around mid to end of November?

Hi. Polestar last update was in the beginning of the year. No update is done to the car. The car updates with OTA or at a garage. If they do any secret update without inform owners I can not tell

we just made a 6.1.12 which contains another fix, that might help, can you please check again? Sorry for testing with you like this, unfortunately we can not test it ourself, as even the PS2 and Volvo emulator work with the release version…

Sorry, the same. I did a reset on the infotaiment, delete all files and the chace for ABRP before i did a new install

Thanks for the video, looks like it crashes on setting up permissions. Could you please try to set them up manually, so we do not need to ask for it? Go to app settings and allow all of them manually, location and telemetry probably. If it starts up then, we at least know that it might be related to permissions setup.

sorry for the slow progress on this issue. We tried to find a reproduction but had no luck so far. We are actually out of ideas now, so we will revert back to 6.1.2 (which will be released as a 6.1.12) later today. We will send you a message here so you can try it.
We are currently rewriting the whole AA/Automotive implementation right now anyways, so if it doesn’t work at all, we will provide a beta version soon, that contains the rewrite so you can test that version.

PinnedSorry for the long wait. We just released a new internal version for testing. It is 6.1.13. Could you please check when you have time? I could finally reproduce something that looked like the same issue on Android Auto which uses the same implementation. So if it was the same crash, this might solve the Automotive crashes too. Please give it a try.

That might be an issue related to switching between the internal test version and the public release. Normally this should not be necessary when only updating release versions.

Hi, I have use the app for a week now there is still some problems. The app now start but I have to restart the infotaiment system everytime I want to plan a new tripp If I don’t do that I can not search for an adress. If I try to choose an adress from the list of previus tripp the app get stuck in “ Planerar “ . The app is locked in some way, I can not logg out or change anything until I restart the infotaiment

We will also release a new version of Automotive soon after our next major release which is coming this week. if you want to participate in testing that version let me know and we’ll get you onto the test version as soon as there is one.

I have just uninstalled and re-downloaded the latest beta. (Today is 15Dec2025)
Behaviour has not changed.
I manually provisioned each of the permissions requests one by one In case it was a single permission causing problems but nothing has worked.
The app doesn’t ask for any further permissions and crashes just after the screen offering the user login button.
