Putting a thumbs up on a charger network seems to put an extraordinary level of preference on that network. This makes sense for people who have free charging for a particular network, but there are other use cases as well.
My ideal use case would be for thumbs up to be a “gentler” preference, but other factors including various charging station quality metrics would be taken into consideration. For example, if I thumbs up electrify America once (I have a membership so they often are cheaper), don’t route me to EA chargers with poor ratings (it’s not worth waiting 20 minutes to save $3).
Even better, rather than thumbs up / thumbs down, let me put charging networks in order of preference. All things being equal, I’d rather go to EA rather than to Tesla because of lower pricing (and Elon), but Tesla is preferable to car dealership chargers (regardless of network).
I recognize this is a complex problem with a lot of potential solutions, and the degree to which charger network preference matters varies a lot globally. However, as the number of chargers and charging networks proliferate such that there are often multiple good charging options available that don’t make significant differences in overall charge time, some more sophistication in this area would be well worth it.
