Selection of route type (fastest, economical etc) optimize for cost / price of charging

Feature Requests

Today it is only possible to select if the you want to have few or many charging stops.

It would also be nice to have the posibility to select if the route should be the fastest or most economical without to many settings.

    Yes, currently ABRP is uselss in optimising cost.


    Now that charging stations are everywhere, price is becoming the key criteria on plannification.

    Currently I plan the route with ABRP, then look at Chargeprice app to find the cheapest station within 5 minutes of ABRP proposed stops and manually use those.

    As Apple maps with EV planning is doing exactly the same result as ABRP for free, with the same limitations (except it’s easier to import the revised stops from Chargeprice into Apple Maps), I don’t really see any USP for ABRP anymore.

    Hi @Koen Marchand,

    1. The applicable cost at the charger
      As long as we’re able to get the cost data, we do calculate the charging cost (not all networks provide this)

    2. Takes into account the charge passes and memberships
      We already do this, as long as we have data about the charge passes you have. See: Charge cards, to have us plan with your charge cards, select them and enable ‘Plan route preferring chargers that are supported by my cards’. If we’re missing any, see: How can I request a charge card or a charger network to be added?

    3. Includes an advanced mode which calculates cheaper, but longer routes, where the user has to provide his/her value of time (cost per hour)
      Our default planning goal is to provide you with the fastest plan, and this takes charging time into consideration. If you want to go one step further, you can enable Adjust speed

    Advanced economic mode

    A nice feature would be an economic mode, which calculates the optimum charging cost based on:

    1. the applicable cost at the charger

    2. Takes into account the charge passes and memberships

    3. Includes an advanced mode which calculates cheaper, but longer routes, where the user has to provide his/her value of time (cost per hour)

    Hi,

    It’s great to have charge cards plans added and display the price of various cards but it would be great to be able to optimise road for cost / add a slider on importance of cost.
    I’m regularly offered one really expensive charger while I know there is one literally less than a third of the price just a few kilometres down.
    With price inconsistencies going at ratio of up to 1 to 5 it has a significant impact.

      In many cases, ABRP knows the cost for charging at the stations. If I was traveling from Cedar Rapids, Iowa to Minneapolis Minnesota, it would be cheaper to stop at the ChargeLab station in Charles City, Iowa and then at the EVgo station in Northfield, Minnesota than the ElectrifyAmerica station in Albert Lea, Minnesota.

      Optimise filter for how important price is

      With prices ranging from 45p to 85p per kWh for fast chargers being able to have a slider to put in how important price is vs speed is getting more important. This will also help the more expensive charging companies to decide to reduce price when abrp users stop using it.

      Charging Cost Accuracy / Option to Customize

      The app does not accurately predict charging costs for Tesla Superchargers; the cost predicted by the app is roughly half of the actual cost. Please update the pricing to reflect real world pricing, and/or give the user the option to change the price per kWh / price per minute in the settings.

    The few stops option should also be revised. When I'm already at a charging station, it suggests charging for just a few minutes if you can reach your destination with a minimum charge level of 10%. I don't want it that way. If I'm already at a charging station, I want to charge up to 85%, because that can be done quickly in half an hour. After that, it takes longer to reach 100%.
