Auto zoom in the latest beta is a large step. But
zoom levels are in general much to far zoomed out on some screens (eg the Kia wide screen Navi with android auto)
There should be a way to change zoom levels (best configurable zoom Level for speed ranges as on many build in Navi systems)

I second this. I am using the 2D north map on Android Auto. Or rather I am trying to use it, as it is practically useless in its current form.
- the map is zoomed in way too far. When going south, the visible distance to the edge of the screen is merely 150m. That is way too little to get any orientation or meaningful overview. The next maneuver is never visible on the map in time.
- when you move or zoom out the map to make any sense of it, the original zoom is agressively restored almost immediately. This makes it effectively impossible for the codriver to check out anything on the map (e.g. charging stations).
It appears that the presentation was calibrated exclusively for the 3D view and the 2D map was totally neglected. In its current state the 2D map is useless for navigation. It is shocking to find posts here that are reporting the same basic problem 4 years ago, showing either a total disregard for user feeback or lack of maintenance alltogether.
I had high hopes initially, but this is the reason for cancelling my subscription.

I agree. I often use the “next step” display which automatically zooms in when approaching a turn… However the default zoom level is much to zoomed in to see anything for instance here when turning left in 300 m and I cannot see the turn
Apple maps has a more dynamic approach for example here:
Either zoom to next turn or zoom based on speed would be great :)
Otherwise using the 3D view when zooming in with the next step setting would help a lot

I use the 2D, fixed North map for navigating on android auto. Currently it is so zoomed in as to be almost unusable as it is impossible to safely anticipate the upcoming road layout.
Pinch to zoom quickly returns to the original unusable zoom level.
I have just bought a premium subscription as the other features are so valuable, but if it doesn’t work for safe navigation then the other features are greatly undermined.
Options:
A - +, zoom out zoom in button.
Pinch to zoom level is maintained
A better default that zooms out as speed increases

Wow, 3 years old old.. and same problem today. Zoom ist to near, only See 30 meters around the car with 50km/h
