Unable to Select Alternative Routes in Landscape Mode

In navigation mode on an Android phone in landscape rotation (or on an Android box directly connected to the car display), it is impossible to select an alternative route if one is proposed during navigation or if an alternative is searched by the user. The alternatives appear but are not scrollable, so you cannot click "done/accept."

On the phone, there is a frustrating workaround: you can rotate the phone, but this is impossible on the box connected to the car display.

To be clear, this happens when using direct navigation on the phone and not when connected to an Android Auto system.
