"Smart" calculation of arrival SoC at chargers

When heading to a reliable charging station with lots of chargers you can “gamble” on a lower arrival SoC than you might want to use if you’re going to an unknown / questionable station with only one or two chargers.

It would be very nice to have some features that helped with making informed decisions / backup plans. Here are some ideas:

  • When the route plan includes arriving at a charging station without enough remaining charge to get to an alternate charger, generate a warning. Two levels of warning would be nice: 1) a caution that there are no alternate chargers that you prefer, and 2) a critical alert if there are no alternate chargers at all within range at the planned SoC.

  • When there are no good alternates offer to replan with either a high enough SoC to get to an alternate or to “plan around” the problematic charging station. For example by adding a charging stop or by charging to a higher SoC at a previous charger.

  • Make this behavior optional (so it doesn’t become a nuisance).

  • Make it possible to default to this behavior when planning (so that you would always arrive at a charger, or at questionable chargers or chargers where real-time status isn’t available, with enough charge to make it to an alternate).

  • Generate alerts dynamically if conditions change — either higher than predicted consumption or the status of the charging station.

  • If possible differentiate between an expected delay due to heavy traffic at a planned charger vs. a charger being down or being unreliable or not reporting status.
