The routing is terrible

I was trying to plan a trip to a client's office, and ABRP sent me off the highway and straight through downtown during rush hour. What a mess…

Routing errors like this happen all the time:

Often, you’re directed onto the lane for the highway exit, only to have to get back on the highway right after that, or it suggests a completely pointless detour during a trip that’s even longer than the original route…

If this keeps up, I’m going to cancel my Premium account again.

    This also happens around here (Tacoma/Gig Harbor, WA), it seems to happen when the signage is badly coded in OSM. I’ll try to generate a couple of routes that show the problem. Neither of these seem to be traffic related – both have happened to me with 7.1.2 in the last month and in both cases traffic was not an issue in real life nor was the map showing significant traffic when it happened.

    Coming from the north on I5 with a destination on the west side of Tacoma via Highway 16, the routing appears to suggest that you get off at Union, but I think that is due to the way the highway sings are encoded in OSM. I think this route will show that:

    Crossing the Tacoma Narrows Bridge heading towards I5 I’ve been directed to get off at the first exit across the bridge, Jackson, and then to get right back onto 16. In this case as well the signage suggests that 16 is going to Jackson (the right hand lane is an exit only). Here is a route that may show this problem:

    The second example has “cropped up” from time to time over several years. For whatever reason it is not a routing error that happens every time. The first example has only happened to me once (even though I regularly drive that route).
