iPhone X iOS running 16.7.11

Not sure how wide an issue this is or if it’s just with Apple CarPlay?

  • ABRP gets lost in areas with poor or no mobile connection but keeps giving directions. Oddly, if I open the app on my phone, my actual location shows as correct and that I’m miles away from the planned route.

  • ABRP puts a high priority on absolutely the shortest/fastest route. If it saves 10 seconds or 100 metres, ABRP will take me down a narrow, winding, potholed single lane “road” sometime with grass growing up the middle.

Neither Google Maps nor Apple Maps has either of these issues, provided I have planned the route before losing mobile signal.

I did sign up for a subscription but then discovered these problems and cancelled it.

Get these issues sorted and I’ll sign up again.

      1. I plan an ABRP route with the app on my iPhone before departing.

      2. I get in the car, connect my iPhone with a cable via Apple CarPlay to the car infotainment system. Planned route shows the same on the car display as planned and displayed on the iPhone.

      3. About half way along the route, I notice there is no mobile signal.

      4. ABRP continues to give me directions but the route seems to be not what was planned.

      5. After another 15 minutes or so, I decide I’m nowhere near the original route although this still shows on the infotainment screen and ABRP shows via CarPlay I am following the planned route.

      6. I stop and disconnect the iPhone from Apple CarPlay and the infotainment system.

      7. Looking just at the iPhone display, I see the original route but my actual location as displayed by ABRP on the iPhone screen shows as being perhaps 10 km from the route!

      My guess is that somehow the interaction between Apple CarPlay and ABRP isn’t correctly picking up the GPS position.

      I have seen comments from others of a similar problem - ABRP + iPhone + CarPlay + no mobile signal → lost.
