Poor routing for ferries on BC coast

When planning a route from Comox, BC to North Vancouver, BC ABRP insists on routing through the Sunshine Coast. The result is a trip with three ferries and twice as long as the logical and commonly used route which takes one ferry from Nanaimo to West Vancouver. If the user selects “avoid ferries” in an attempt to correct the routing, it can’t plan a route at all. If the user selects “Alternatives”, none are suggested.

        If you set a waypoint at Nanaimo we take a ferry from there.

          This is still an issue. Even with a Nanaimo way point which shouldn’t have to happen as it offers a route through Victoria or the Sunshine Coast adding hours on from the routes through Nanaimo. Very frustrating as an island user. Please fix the routing rather than offering ways to trick the software. If you put these routes through Google Maps or other mapping apps they take you the easiest routes 1st, they don’t have to be tricked into the easiest routes.

          It’s not the most confidence inspiring in using your app to plan a trip on routes we’re not familiar with.

    This is likely because ABRP ignores the two(!) ferry routes from Nanaimo when outbound. Instead it routes via Victoria - two hours driving to the south. I have been reporting this bug for years and it is still not fixed. You could try reversing the route and it will recognize one of the Nanaimo routes..
