Poor implementation of back button

I'm on a Pixel 10 Pro Fold. The app does not integrate with Android navigation API. It renders its own navigation controls, presumably due to being a minimal iOS port. I have Android gestures tuned off in favour of the navigation button overlay. This often makes the non-native navigation buttons in the app inaccessible as the get mushed in the the OS notifications bar. So no native navigation, hand-rolled navigation broken. Fortunately, I can escape by unfolding my phone to trigger a refresh, which forgets that the dialog was open, but 95% of phones can't do that.
