"Plug In" Interface Or API for Stop Planning

On road trips it would be very nice to be able to find stops with particular amenities. Often there exists an app or other means of finding the desired stop, but it is not “route friendly” — there is no way to say “find one along my route.”

The use case for us would be to have a way to find a Sniff Spot where we could stop and allow our dog to have a break. If there was an ABRP API that made it possible to query 3rd-party POI databases or that would allow a 3rd-party to propose a list of “on the route” stops to ABRP then it would be possible to leverage ABRP’s ability to optimize routes with 3rd-party knowledge of, perhaps niche, POIs.

Other potential providers of POIs would include hotel chains, specialized restaurant lists like Happy Cow, store chains, etc. I think this would make ABRP a much better trip planning tool & having a standard API would encourage POI providers to support ABRP. It would also move the burden of maintaining the lists of POIs to folks who have an interest in keeping the data current.
