Map needs a persistent scale

Whenever seeing the map, the scale should be visible. at all times. It is one of those "misguided minimalism" things to remove it. Especially in large parks or natural features where there's no sense of scale inferrable from city blocks, I can't judge distances by looking at the map and have to re-open the location in google maps or elsewhere; where at least the scale is visible while changing zoom
