Live traffic data in Switzerland is far from accurate

It shows traffic jams or slow-moving traffic where there isn’t any (for example, at midnight on a completely clear road or in the middle of nowhere on a third-class road), and conversely, information is missing where there actually is a traffic jam or heavy congestion that genuinely affects journey times. — This critical lack of up-to-date information significantly detracts from what is otherwise a great loading assistant/navigation programme.

It doesn’t appear to be any better in NW Scotland. Non-existent heavy traffic (red), slow traffic (orange) but the road is clear, and sometimes queues but nothing is reported. Worst are the road closures, that never exist. The whole traffic thing is just unreliable. I’ve got a 600+ mile/1000+ km mile journey coming up and I’m starting to wonder if I should use ABRP to track consumption/plan charging and something like Waze/Google to manage traffic.

Thanks for reporting! Could you give us some examples of roads where you have seen issues? Is this on large highways or smaller roads?

Bo, in my case I see issues on most road types, not sure if you can see my history, but yesterday I was seeing Orange reported on two lane roads between 09:00-10:30, and then again on single lane roads (the same lane in both directions) later in the day. I quite often see Red reported at roundabouts near Inverness at the end of fast dual carriage way (4 lanes) but at 22:30, when my assumption is that the queue related more to rush hour and would be at least 4 hours out of date.
I will say that I was travelling on a popular motorhome tourist route for the first part of yesterday and then roads that aren’t typical in the rest of the UK and therefore I could see why they had been marked as slow/Orange. In fact before switching to an EV and ABRP, Waze suffered a similar issue, but it would correct itself quicker.

Hi there. Just sending you some examples between TomTom (my navigation app before going for an ev and 99% reliable for years regarding live traffic!) and abrp. Going to get some more examples later if needed.

  Thank you for the detailed examples! In example two it looks like TomTom shows traffic in the Y-intersection - whereas ABRP shows only some yellow traffic; is that a correct intepretation?
  In the fourth example, there seems to be a construction zone where we show yellow traffic and TomTom shows construction. Can you explain what you would expect here?

  2nd example: Tomtom shows two freeways northbound merging and gaining slow moving traffic. At the same time ABRP shows slow moving traffic south-west bound.
  Regarding construction zone (c-zone): Tomtom shows the c-zone with apparently no impact on traffic. ABRP is coming up with slow moving traffic from the beginning of the c-zone and way beyond the end.
  In my opinion c-zones should be reflected what they are - c-zones. If there is no jam, it should be a c-zone only (possibly with an appropriate independant signature?).
