Interferences between ABRP and Apple Music at CarPlay
Since version 7 there are huge interferences between ABRP and Apple Music at CarPlay. I am streaming in lossless quality in AppleMusic and when ABRP is in use, there are many lag or freezes in map move or drops in music playback. Used is iPhone 16PRO 256GB, 5G connectivity. Map in ABRP set to satellite. OBD in use too. It creates unpleasant situations during navigation, especially in city.
- Where does this happen?
- ABRP version number (found at bottom of settings menu)

Hi
Thanks for reporting this. We need to look at this because it’s nothing we have experienced ourselves. I will send it to our developers.

Hi,
After latest update situation is worse, so many lags during navigation. Music stops, map stops, freezing. Do something with this please. Premium doesn’t make sense if performance getting worse and worse.
Thank you.

@Petr Boehm why you stream apple music in carplay in lossless?
carplay cannot play lossless audio.

Hey, we added many performance improvements over the last few weeks. Please update to the latest version or update to the current beta:
Installing the ABRP Beta version
Could you please check and let us know if it improved for you?

Hi, installed Beta and until moment when I start play Apple Music everything works smoothly, no lags. With Apple Music lagging starts.

Hey,
i just tried to reproduce. I subscribed to Apple Music, then I enabled lossless quality. Then I connected wirelessly to CarPlay and used navigation, OBD and Apple Music at the same time together with satellite maps. It worked totally fine for me on an iPhone 13 on iOS 26.5.
If you already had this many issues before, it actually sounds like the phone itself has some issues.
Did you try to restart the phone to see if that improves the situation?
Do you have the lastest iOS updates installed?
Does it happen both on wireless and wired CarPlay?
Does anyone else in the family have an iPhone, where you can test the same constellation that you have and do you also see the same problems?
Does your car have a secondary display (instrument cluster for example) that shows a second map?
Does it happen in other cars too, or is it specific to your car?
We tried on two devices with two different accounts and couldn’t see anything so far, but if you have an easy way to reproduce it on multiple devices, please tell us exactly what you are doing and what you have setup. Which car did you use?

Toyota bz4x is my car. Using ABRP on main screen a turn-by-turn instruction on cockpit screen. iPhone 16 PRO 256GB, 5G/LTE connection, up-to-date and restarting approx once a week, just to keep phone running smoothly, no special reasons. I am using only wireless CarPlay. My second car, old Jaguar, doesn’t have CarPlay, hence I can’t compare. Other family members don’t use ABRP, only me.
Situation happens during playing Apple Music and have active navigation via ABRP, there is short pause of music and freeze of navigation in the same time, 1-2 seconds. During navigation of 40km trip it happens 3-4 times. I learnt that it happens almost in the same place during trip (testing during my way to and from the office). I don’t know if it could be related to mobile network and handover between BTS. When I play only Apple Music no drops during playback at these places.

Thanks for the details. Sounds like a heavy operation that happens every now and then only. We do plan refreshes once a minute, that could be one culprit, but I guess it would happen more often if that was the reason. Will try it on a longer trip tomorrow.

Actually there is something you could do. When this happens again, go into ABRP settings in CP (the cogwheel icon on top right of the map). In the upper right there is a bug button. That one sends us some additional info about your trip and phone status. It might help us to identify whats going on. Please let me know when you sent one, so we can check it.

Hey,
over the weekend I drove 4h with ABRP and Lossless HiRes on my iPhone 13 which has way lower specs (especially half the RAM only) and I didn’t have a single lag in the music. Even when I start the camera, and CarPlay almost dies (the camera has very high performance penalties on CP, due to the high usage of RAM) the music continues to play without any issues.
I looked at the eventlog you sent us, and it said you only have 42MB of free memory (out of 8GB).
Could you please check, if any other apps run in the background? ABRP only consumes 302MB according to the logs.
Lossless requires more memory than other music formats, so if the memory is full, it could cause issues, when there is not much left.
There are diagnostic apps out there, where you can read out the memory, not sure though if they show you exactly how much each app consumes, but maybe you could try one of them to see if there are any other things running that fill up RAM?

Hi,
Thank you for your effort. Honestly, I never checked memory usage, expected that iPhone 16 Pro does handle it efficiently. I am always trying to close apps when I don’t use them. Typically, when I drive and use navigation, are open ABRP and Apple Music and wireless connection of CarPlay to avoid battery drain by some other app. Phone is during drive charged wirelessly. I bought monitor app now, and will see. In meantime I uploaded few additional bug reports from my trips.

Last week almost 800km trip, still lagging and freezing, moreover iPhone battery drained from 100 to 32 and phone was on wireless charger during all time.
Again I have tested new version, the same like many times, with premium account and as many times I am going to cancel my premium subscription. App is not suitable for use with CarPlay and serious navigation. For planning yes, then is necessary to use some better navigation. I am sorry.

Sorry to hear it still doesn’t work well for you. We will have a look at performance again. The long time metrics we have don’t show any large deviations, but maybe there is something that we do not monitor properly. We will come back to you once we find something and provide some free test period, so we can make sure you can test it without any additional cost.

Hey, just one more question, according to your latest logs, you have been on 7.0.6 the whole time, which is NOT the latest version, it is 7.1.1. Could you please give it another try with that one? 7.0.6 is almost 1 month old and doesn’t include the latest performance optimizations I talked about.

I am using what beta testing via TestFlight offers…
Now updated to newest version from AppStore and will try. Another 800 km trip front of me today, hence it will be good to test.
I will provide feedback on Friday.

Hey, i just did some more investigation yesterday and today, and found a few things, that improve performance and memory usage. We will release a new beta with that soon, so you probably should rather have a look at the upcoming 7.1.2, which reduces the memory consumption and CPU load quite a bit. I hope that one will fix most of the issues for you. We will probably release it in a day or two.

Hi, version 7.1.2 is significant improvement. Only few freezings. Much much better than all previous versions. Thank you very much. What I faced now is that turn-by-turn navigation on cockpit is not sometimes synchronised with main navigation. Turn which I already did is still on cockpit and not changed to new one.
