Improved user user experience.

ABRP is a complex app with an intimidating number of preferences. There are issues both with discoverability and with understanding… new users aren’t going to understand the purpose of many features and preferences (and problems they solve). For example:

  • Charging network preferences can make a huge difference in your initial experience with using the app. If you are a new vehicle owner with free charging on a particular network, this is one of the most important things to set.

  • The “add vehicle” wizard dumps you into vehicle integration selection without explaining what it’s for, and the massive differences between the choices.

  • Most new users are likely just to plot the route to a destination, without necessarily realizing they should put in a round trip to ensure they don’t get stranded in a remote location with too little battery to make it back.

  • Users may not realize that a plan may have an absolute dependence on a single charger, and that they need to manually check the quality of that charger to make sure they won’t be stranded.

I suspect these users would be better served with strategically placed wizards: one for when you create your account (for key preferences), and one when you create your first route (guiding you through choosing whether to plan a round trip, advising on checking charger quality, etc…).
