Map in the instrument cluster turns black with CarPlay ABRP 5.5

I am talking about the ‘map in the instrument cluster’ of my BMW i4 M50 car. This is the map that, when first starting the car, works but then after some time (~ 10 mins) started glitching and then went to black.

With glitching, I mean that first the map disappeared but only an indication of the next highway exit was visible (in a blue box) and below there was the text visible that ‘a route planner was in use with apple carplay’ (thus is not the exact text, but something like that was displayed.

Next, I stopped at a gas station and I got out of the car, closed it and came back after a few minutes. Then I started the car, started carplay and started the app ABRP. This did not resolve the issue. I could see the map in the ‘center display’ but the ‘map in the instrument cluster’ remained black, without any information.

Then, after a short drive, I stopped again and then rebooted the instrument cluster and center display by holding the volume button down for 30 seconds.

After reboot, everything seemed to be working again, but…. after 10 mins or so, the whole ABRP app in Carplay re-started over and over again, with 2 to 5 mins intervals. When the app started, the map in the instrument cluster was visible but the route guidance was not visible there. The route guidance was only visible in the center display (sometimes detailed route guidance and sometimes detailed route guidance).

So in the end, I had to shut down the ABRP app because it kept on glitching.

Result is that I now cannot use the app and have to wait until the issue is fixed 🤷‍♂️
