GPS drift

During a leg of a trip it sometimes wanders off track as if it has lost the GPS info.

Where does this happen?

    Hi @Stephen Brown,

Does it seem to happen entirely at random or does it happen more while driving or when standing still?

It seems to be at random at slower speeds

I can cofirm that. In a Kia EV3 I experienced the same. Phone connected to car, AndroidAuto connected, speed of vehicle is low, and on the ABRP screen of Android Auto, the GPS position seems to stay for several seconds, than it jumps to my actual position, then after a few moments again the same behaviour.

We have some logic to not update the position if the GPS only moves a couple of meters - maybe that is what you see here? How far would you have to move before it updates?

If I can remember correctly, the actual speed of the car was about 15-20 km/h, and the gap between two GPS position jump was about 2-3 sec.
Based on that data, the car must have moved about 10-15 m in between.
Today I experimented a bit to catch the situation better, but to no avail. The GPS position moved on the screen always very smoothly :(

DO You intent to fix that? Recently did a trip with my BYD dophin and GPS is a mess. Always show behind that I was actually was.

Take another way because of constructions and still show me in the previous one.

It seems like not fixing it’s position and that’s cause all that.

I recently missed a highway exit to a charging station due to the fact that GPS location was lagging behind by multiple miles. So when I passed the exit, ABRP showed me we are still roughly 3 miles away. Not sure if it is related, but want it documented. This one was especially nasty as I was low on SoC and had to crawl to another location due to this issue. My setup was Pixel 8, OBD link to BMW i3, wired Android-Auto. Not sure if with this setup ABRP takes location from car or from phone.
