Full instrument cluster / HUD guidance via CarPlay — currently only rudimentary

Vehicle: Škoda Enyaq 85 (MY27, software 6.0.0), factory head-up display, wireless CarPlay, iPhone

Description

Since version 5.5, ABRP advertises detailed instrument cluster and HUD instructions over CarPlay. In practice, what reaches my car's head-up display is far more limited than that wording suggests: I get a street name and a plain turn arrow, but none of the richer manoeuvre guidance that Apple Maps delivers on the very same vehicle.

I have tested this directly. With Apple Maps, the head-up display shows complete turn-by-turn guidance. With ABRP, the same display falls back to a bare minimum. The interface is clearly implemented on your side — it simply is not being populated with the same level of detail.

What I would like to see

  • Manoeuvre graphics in the HUD matching what Apple Maps provides (turn type, distance to the manoeuvre, lane guidance where available)

  • The same data sent to the instrument cluster on vehicles that support it

  • Ideally, charging stops surfaced as waypoints in the cluster display, which would be a genuine advantage over any general-purpose navigation app

Why this matters

The head-up display is the main reason I navigate via CarPlay at all — it keeps my eyes on the road. ABRP's routing and charge planning are excellent and I would much rather use one app for the whole journey than plan in ABRP and then navigate in Apple Maps. As things stand, the HUD limitation forces exactly that split.

To be transparent: I have cancelled my Premium subscription for now, precisely because of this gap. Charge planning alone does not justify the subscription for me if I lose proper head-up display guidance in the process. I would resubscribe without hesitation if this were addressed — and I suspect I am not the only driver of a HUD-equipped EV in that position.

Happy to test and provide feedback on my vehicle if that helps.
