Feature Request: Export Route to Apple Maps

Hi ABRP team,

I would like to request the addition of a feature that would greatly enhance the user experience for iPhone users, especially those without a Premium subscription: the ability to export a planned ABRP route directly to Apple Maps, via an “Open in Apple Maps” button in the route summary or sharing menu.

📱 Context and Motivation

Many ABRP users, including myself, plan their EV trips using your fantastic route planner but use Apple Maps for the actual turn-by-turn navigation. This is especially common among:

  • iPhone users who prefer the native Apple Maps experience

  • CarPlay users, where Apple Maps is the default or more integrated app

  • Non-premium ABRP users, who do not have access to ABRP’s built-in navigation and must switch to another app for real-time guidance

Currently, ABRP offers export to Google Maps, but there’s no similar option for Apple Maps. As a result, users who want to navigate with Apple Maps must manually copy and paste each charging stop or destination, which is tedious and error-prone — especially for long EV trips with multiple charging points.

✅ Suggested Implementation

I propose the addition of a simple export function that would:

  • Add a button labeled “Open in Apple Maps” (or “Export to Apple Maps”) in:

    • The route summary screen

    • Or the Share menu (same place as Google Maps export)

  • If Apple Maps cannot handle full multi-stop routes via URL, a .gpx file export could be added as an alternative. Apple Maps supports importing GPX files through Files or third-party apps.

🧭 Expected Benefits

  • For non-premium users: Enables route execution with turn-by-turn guidance without needing ABRP’s navigation feature

  • For Apple ecosystem users: Seamless integration with CarPlay, Siri voice guidance, Apple Watch, and native iOS features

  • For all users: Offers choice of navigation app, like the current Google Maps export

This would not affect Premium features like live SOC tracking or dynamic rerouting — it’s simply a way to hand off the planned static route to the user’s preferred navigation app.

🙏 Final Thoughts

I believe this feature would be a relatively lightweight addition from a development standpoint, but would significantly improve usability for a large share of your iOS user base.

Thanks again for all your great work on ABRP. It’s an essential tool for EV drivers, and this small addition would make it even more versatile and user-friendly.

Best regards,
