Crash on Huawei P30 Pro (Android 10) - Bad notification / RemoteServiceException

Hi,

I am experiencing repeated crashes with the latest version of ABRP on a Huawei P30 Pro (EMUI 10 / Android 10).

Scenario:

  • Waze is running on Android Auto (car display).

  • ABRP is running on the phone screen only.

  • ABRP is used for navigation and to monitor the predicted battery percentage at destination.

  • The app suddenly returns to the Android home screen several times during a trip. When I reopen ABRP, the current route is restored.

I captured the crash in logcat. It looks like the app crashes while posting or updating a notification:

FATAL EXCEPTION: main Process: com.iternio.abrpapp android.app.RemoteServiceException: Bad notification(tag=null, id=59104323) Couldn't inflate contentViews android.widget.RemoteViews$ActionException: FrameLayout doesn't have method: setHeight(int) android.widget.RemoteViews$ActionException: RelativeLayout doesn't have method: setText(CharSequence)

The crash occurs repeatedly during the same trip (multiple FATAL EXCEPTION entries).

This looks like an incompatibility in the notification RemoteViews on Android 10 / Huawei EMUI.

    Hi,

    I just reproduced the issue on our side with an Android 10 emulator. I can see exactly the same logging, however the app does not crash. The notification disappears for a moment and then reappears on the next update. For me this happened, when approaching a charger and the notification changed to the “charge to xx for yy min” text. Is this the same for you?

    If it crashes mid driving, I’m afraid it could be a different issue. Or maybe Huawei treats these crashes differently than stock Android. Will check if I can find logs for your user ID.

      Anyways, I’ll get this notification issue fixed, so if some manufacturers are more strict on this than others we are on the safe side.

      For me, the app was actually crashing—I was being taken back to the Android home screen.

      In the meantime, I've disabled notifications for the app, and I haven't experienced any crashes since.
