First of all: ABRP is an excellent app. The routing logic, the consumption model and especially the OBD live data integration are outstanding. I use it with a Toyota bZ4X Touring (2026, 71 kWh AWD) and an OBDLink CX, so ABRP receives the real state of charge from the vehicle in real time. That part works very well.
But two things limit its usefulness in practice, and I would like to ask the team to look into them.
**1. Missing chargers on Italian motorways**
A large share of the Free To X stations along the Italian autostrade is missing from the database. Free To X belongs to the motorway operator Autostrade per l'Italia and its chargers sit directly at the service areas — exactly where a long-distance driver wants to stop.
Because ABRP does not know these locations, it plans charging stops off the motorway. I then leave the autostrada, charge somewhere in a town, and discover a few kilometres later that there was a Free To X station at the next service area all along. The result is unnecessary detours, unnecessary stops and longer travel times — the exact opposite of what the app is built for.
Other apps such as Chargemap show these stations reliably, so the data exists. Please consider adding Free To X as a data source, or refreshing the Italian dataset more regularly.
**2. No re-planning after charging at a station ABRP does not know**
This is the more serious issue, and it follows directly from the first one.
When I charge at a station that is not in the database, ABRP receives the new state of charge through the OBD connection — the value visibly jumps up in the app. But the plan is not recalculated. ABRP keeps the originally planned charging stops as if nothing had happened, even though the battery situation has completely changed.
From a user's point of view this is hard to understand: the app has the live data, it can see that the SoC has risen by 40 percentage points while the vehicle was stationary, and it still sticks to the old plan. A charging event should be detected from the live data itself, regardless of whether the charger is known to the database, and the remaining route should be re-planned automatically.
**Suggestion**
- Detect charging events from live SoC data (stationary vehicle plus rising SoC) and trigger a re-plan
- Alternatively, offer a manual "I charged here" button that re-plans from the current SoC
- Improve coverage of Free To X and Italian motorway operators in general
Thank you for your work — with these two points fixed, ABRP would be close to perfect for cross-border trips.
