CarPlay sounds very low and late

I cannot use ABRP navigation with CarPlay as the navigation instructions are very quiet and can’t be heard.
The instructions totally cut out the XM Radio sound and are only about 1/4th the volume of the radio. Apple Maps and Google Maps only reduce the volume of the radio, and then give instructions at the same level as the radio, but it is adjustable if I turn it up or down while those apps are speaking. This isn’t possible with ABRP.
The instructions also come too late. Compared to the other 2, I don’t have time to get to a different lane if needed.
