CarPlay freezing

In the past couple of weeks, I experience that the CarPlay app and widget appears to hang. No other CarPlay apps seem to have issues.

This is in a Nissan Ariya.

The map freezes for long periods of time and just occasionally updates. It also appears is if ABRP loses GPS or internet connection (the phone however, does not).

Sometimes the updates happen at apparently random times, but it also happens consistently after exiting tunnels (ie. after exiting an actual blind spot?).

Where does this happen?

    Same behavior, funnily enough: when I drive into a tunnel and loose GPS the pin starts to move as intended. But the second I regain GPS it freezes again. For longer drives where I really need to now where to drive I need to use my wife’s android…

    This is happening to me too. It’s not a GPS problem. If I don’t have a route set, the in-app map follows my location, even though the arrow stays in one place, maybe occasionally updating. The CarPlay Dashboard map doesn’t move. If I have a route set, the map doesn’t move there either. It’s not only on CarPlay either, I noticed it happening on the iPhone screen too.

    Do you have iOS 27 installed? I’m thinking that might be causing it? I haven’t been able to test on a public release though. 2023 Bolt EUV for me if that matters.

      iOS is a good suspect, yeah. I’m on 26.5.1, but I’ve been annoyed by Edge freezing up randomly for some time, also on previous versions. And I hadn’t thought about it until you mentioned it now.. lately that has happened to other apps as well. Perhaps iOS 26 is messing with a lot of stuff.

    I’ve been randomly been getting the same thing. At first I thought my phone was a bit overwhelmed so killed all the running apps and then restarted ABRP by itself. It worked OK for a while, and then just paused. The map seems to update when something else changes on display.

    Hello @ABRP User #1420022,

    Does it unfreeze as soon as you turn on the phone screen again? Or is there a crash?

    Can you go to iOS settings→ABRP and check what permissions you have given ABRP?

      I haven’t tested that yet - I’m driving :) Will check.

      Permissions as attached.

      But today it did unfreeze after I posted this question. The app first behaved weird when I chose to report an issue; it needed several back and forths between app and browser before it authenticated successfully. I had to try several times. And after that it also worked in CarPlay. Stab in the dark: could the app have had some session/authentication issue that somehow led to the freeze?

      It did show me as logged in, and otherwise worked as expected, so I wouldn’t have thought so, but….

      I’ve still not been able to find any consistent trigger for this, but I have been able to confirm that:

      • unlocking the phone / turning on screen does not help

      • force quitting the app on the phone triggers the CarPlay feed to restart and work normally
