BYD Atto 3 Evo – OBD2 Live Data Restricted (UN R155 / SW 1.3.0) & Request for Solution

Hi ABRP Support Team,

I am a long-time ABRP Premium subscriber, and I am writing to report a serious live data integration issue with my new BYD Atto 3 Evo (running software version 1.3.0).

My OBD2 Bluetooth dongle has worked perfectly with ABRP across all my previous electric vehicles (including Renault, KIA, Nissan, and MG). However, direct live data streaming via OBD2 is no longer reliably functional on this BYD platform.

Background & Technical Details:

Due to European cybersecurity regulations (UN R155 / R156), BYD has implemented strict access controls on the OBD2 diagnostic port with recent software updates:

  • Proprietary BMS protocols and live telemetry streams are blocked or heavily restricted for third-party BLE dongles.

  • Connecting via OBD2 often leads to corrupted data (such as the widespread 193% SoC bug) or total connection loss.

  • BYD explicitly advises against keeping third-party OBD hardware permanently connected, as active dongles can interfere with Vehicle Sleep modes and block Over-The-Air (OTA) software updates.

Because of these hardware-level restrictions, direct OBD2 telemetry is currently unusable on newer BYD vehicles.

Since I am a paying Premium customer relying on accurate live SoC data for route planning, please let me know what alternative solution or fix ABRP suggests to resolve this issue for BYD owners.

Best regards,

Klaus/Vienna
