Android phone minus temperature planning

On my android phone, I am unable to enter a minus temperature for route planning. I followed the instructions in Jos's post and put the number in first, but the box which opens in android and contains the - symbol also has the . symbol and seems to default to the . symbol.
I cannot find any way of inputting -8 for example and am.having to plan with the current, automatic, OAT of -1.
