Android Automotive warns of excessive battery consumption

Installed ABRP on my Chevrolet Equinox EV with Android Automotive. I planned a long toad trip which worked flawlessly until I reached my first charging point. After I finished charging, Android Automotive warned me the app was using excessive battery and that it killed the app as a result. I was then asked to go to the settings and enable the permission to keep the app alive regardless of what the app is doing. I did grant the app that permission. Then I noticed my infotainment system started to become non-responsive as I couldn't use the buttons on the steering wheel to change tracks playing on the car. Even changing the volume was laggy.
