Android Auto map freezes when navigating a Trip Plan with multiple waypoints

I found a reproducible issue with ABRP on Android Auto.

Device:

Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra

Android 16

Wireless Android Auto

ABRP version: 7.1.4 (5924)

Steps to reproduce:

Create a Trip Plan with two or more destinations (waypoints).

Let ABRP calculate the route (it doesn't matter whether charging stops are required or not).

Start navigation in Android Auto.

After some time, the map freezes. The vehicle icon no longer moves and the map stops updating.

Important observations:

Voice guidance continues normally.

GPS is working correctly.

If I navigate to a single destination (without using a Trip Plan), the problem never occurs.

The issue only happens when navigating a Trip Plan with multiple waypoints.

The problem is reproducible and happens repeatedly.

Additional observation: If I simply wake up the phone (for example by opening my Samsung Smart View case or pressing the power button), the map on Android Auto immediately jumps to the current location and continues working. This suggests the navigation itself is still running, but map updates stop until the phone is awakened.

This behavior is consistently reproducible

    Ok, I finally could reproduce and fix it. Next ABRP release should not freeze any longer.

    Any chance you can switch to the beta program and give 7.1.5 (5951) a try?

    I could not reproduce your issue on my side but I found some Mapbox issues describing the exact same issue. Based on that I tried to build a fix for ABRP. On first try it will freeze again for about 10-20 seconds, after that it should start moving again. In case that worked out it should not freeze any longer when connecting AA again.

    Could you please check if it makes a difference when disabling battery optimization by setting it to unrestricted in Android App settings?

      Having a closer look at the issue battery optimization probably doesn’t help.

      This seems to be a bug caused by some Samsung optimization introduced with Android 16.

      We are working on a fix that should come with 7.1.5 then.
