Android 17 location doesn't update

I’m on the Android 17 beta and the ABRP beta and the location either doesn’t update at all during the drive or updates very infrequently, making the app unusable.

Where does this happen?

    Hi and thanks for reaching out.

    We did some changes on the way we get your location in the app. On the other hand your are on an Android beta version too, so it's hard to tell what change causes this issue.

    Any chance you can go back to ABRP 7.1.2 and see if location updates correctly on that one?

      Hi Manuel,

      It’s actually been like this for at least the last 6 versions of ABRP. I left the ABRP beta a month or so ago to troubleshoot and it was still behaving the same, so I suspect it’s something to do with the reworked location permissions on Android 17. I have it set to “Allow only while using the app” which is the most permissive option. Even with the app open, it still doesn’t update. Occasionally it will update maybe every 20 minutes or so, but mostly it doesn’t update the location at all. I’ve never had a problem with this before updating to Android 17, but obviously the app needs to work on Android 17 once it rolls out to a wider audience, so I don’t see a rollback to 16 as a feasible option.

        I double checked this now and it works for me just fine. Both on an the Android emulator and on a Pixel 6 Pro running the latest Android 17 Beta CP31.260508.005.A1.

        I also granted it only the “only while using the app” location permission but can’t reproduce the issue you see.

          I’m on CP31.260522.006, for what it’s worth, but I think it’s been this way for me ever since first receiving the Android 17 beta.

          Any luck duplicating this? I just completely reset my phone to install the standard release (non-beta) version of Android 17 and it’s exhibiting the exact same behavior.

            Sadly not, working fine on the Pixel 6 Pro running final Android 17 (CP2A.260605.012) and ABRP 7.1.4 (5924).

    Having the same kind of issue with

    ABRP Version 7.1.4 (5924) on Android 17 stable

    CP2A.260705.006 on a Google Pixel 9 Pro.

    ABRP premium to use it through Android Auto car screen. Map moves with the car position centered during a few seconds then freezes during few minutes like the position is not updated anymore. Then the map catches up the position to freeze back again. Not usable.
