After latest update map is lagging with CarPlay

After latest update map is lagging or stuck with CarPlay and satellite maps. Internet connectivity is great. Probably processor load is enormous, my iPhone 16 Pro is hot after 45 minutes drive with ABRP.

Where does this happen?

We can see performance metrics from your phone this morning but it does not tell us exactly what is going on. Can you please tell us if you have the same problem on your next drive?
Did you charge your phone wirelessly while driving?

Yes, I did, as always, compartment for my phone in BZ4X is wireless charger. I got suspicious that it happens when I play Apple Music via CarPlay too. Before app update it works fine together.

Yes, with your very powerful iPhone that simultaneous load should of course not be an issue. We know that many wireless chargers cause a lot of heating in the phone though, which will throttle the CPU speed severely. Could you try to drive without charging once?

Yesterday I did drive 35 minutes without wireless charging using ABRP with CarPlay, playing Apple Music. Phone was warm and during those 35 minutes drain battery by 11%, which I don’t see usual. Lagging was still there, especially at map zoom in at slower speed. Automatic zoom in / zoom out based on speed was not smooth as before. Today I have tried change map from satellite to ABRP map, no change, the same lagging and not smooth motion. Also tried switch off Apple Music and no affection on ABRP performance.

Thanks for the additional info. We are trying to make sense of the logs we see to be able to identify the problem. It seems like your drive last evening was done without a plan in ABRP (so “free driving”)?

Yes, free driving. Despite the setup of ABRP actual traffic situation is not shown at free driving I am using map to be able to react to real traffic situation and to find optimal way to my destination just looking on map and see roads around my actual position. Not always using navigation to my destination (for trip from home to my office I really don’t need to be navigated…) Honestly I was decided to replace Toyota build in navigation by ABRP, now after update to version 6 I have doubts to do it. Toyota build in nav system sets the quality level very high and only ABRP was able to go close to it by additional features in connection to OBD which I bought.

Fully understand your concerns, we should be able to solve this. Just tried a 30 minute drive with an iPhone 12, wireless CarPlay, 2 screens (cluster and main) and it ran perfectly at 30 FPS with a luke warm phone at the end (having consumed about 5% battery).

Could you try a drive when you actually have a plan in ABRP to see if it makes any difference?

Just now I have finished driving with the plan in ABRP. There were many freezings of music and map in the same moment. I don’t know what affects what, if Apple Music affects ABRP or ABRP affects Apple Music. Seems like processor has been fully loaded in that moment. This behaviour was not here before update. Today I upgraded iOS to 18.5 and also changed configuration of Apple Music and Dolby Atmos to automatic instead always. No difference. I suppose that iPhone 16 Pro should powerful enough to not face to issues with processor load.

Fully agree that your phone should be powerful enough! Apologies for not being able to solve this immediately, we are still searching for ways to reproduce it - so thank you very much for all your feedback. I have two more things to ask:
                    1) Can you enable the Bug Button in CP settings and press the bug button on the map when you are out driving? This gives us a detailed inner view on what is going on in your app.

                    2) Can you uninstall and then install ABRP again on your phone? We have seen cases of bugs which are due to some broken saved state in the app.

                      Uninstall/install exercise is DONE.

Bug button available. Should I use it when ABRP will freeze or at the beginning of driving?

Press it when you have problems. Let us know approximate time and the issue you had and we will find it.

Done, few reports generated during my last free driving few moments ago. One bug report caused app crash. Battery drains by 15 % after 45 minutes trip.

New bug report uploaded. I have checked battery consumption of my iPhone and ABRP is top with 21% , that’s really too much.

We fully acknowledge that it is a problem and that there is no reason it should be doing this. We are looking at your bug report but so far everything looks normal - i.e. it gives no clues on what is going wrong.

If you have the time, could you try unlinking your OBD connection (or removing the dongle) to see if that part is part of the issues?

Thanks, we will fix that crash - the traces from it actually gave us some nice insights to what is happening the seconds before in your case; we are analyzing.

Guys, last two days I spent driving approx 800km with ABRP and must say that there is no improvement in lagging and freezing of app. I sent few logs and also took a video of freezing. Your app drains battery.

Hello again - I just checked your usage logs from the 10th and it looks like the app runs fine at about 10-20% CPU usage the first couple of hours. In the evening it seems like it all of a sudden goes in to overheat down-clocking (and probably lagging for you). Does that match your experience?

Hi, today driving about 500 km with plan, changing satellite map and graphic map and you app drains battery like hell. 42% used by your app and phone is overheating. In combination with Apple Music a lot of lagging and freezing. Please do something with this. Thank you.
