ABRP unusable in CarPlay since updating to iOS 27 – severe GPS/map lag

Since updating my iPhone to iOS 27, ABRP has become almost unusable when navigating through Apple CarPlay.

The main problem is severe GPS/map lag. The vehicle position does not update smoothly and can be significantly behind my actual position while driving. Navigation therefore becomes very difficult to use.

My setup:

• iPhone running iOS 27
• Peugeot e-Expert
• ABRP via Apple CarPlay
• Wireless CarPlay using a Sunweyer adapter

This setup worked correctly before updating to iOS 27.

I initially suspected the wireless CarPlay adapter, so I updated the Sunweyer to the latest firmware available to me (June 2025 firmware). Unfortunately, this has made no significant difference.

The CarPlay interface itself also seems somewhat less responsive since iOS 27, but the problem is particularly noticeable in ABRP, where the GPS position/map can lag badly enough to make live navigation impractical.

I will also test ABRP using a direct wired CarPlay connection to eliminate the wireless adapter completely.

Are you aware of an iOS 27/CarPlay GPS or map-refresh issue, and is this something currently being investigated?

I would be happy to provide logs, ABRP version details or carry out any additional testing that would help diagnose it.

    After an update last week, the app seemed to function better. Now on 7.1.10 and the problem is back. If this is not rectified soon I shall be asking Apple for a subscription refund. This is not good enough for a paid app. Waze, Googlemaps perform perfectly and are free of charge… This is very disappointing

      Hi,

      I use ABRP every day while driving and for testing and I can’t really reproduce these kind of long GPS lags. So this might be something settings related. We’re trying to figure out the issue, so every detail that could help us find it will help.

      We already added some extra logging, so if you see these GPS lags, please send a bug report (on CarPlay in Settings top right bug button, or in App Settings → Display & Appearance → Bug report button at the bottom, it is visible on the map).

      Sorry for the inconveniance, but we are looking tat this problem and can’t really find anything GPS specific.

      Could you please also check the app settings in Apple Settings → Apps → ABRP. Is there anything off, that could be turned on, like background activity? GPS permission is on when in use? You can manually switch to always, just to see if it makes a difference.

      Hey, one more question, do you use CarPlay in free drive, where the GPS lags behind, or is it with an active route?

    Same issue started today after I bought OBDlink CX adapter to get live data. It was so severe, my location didn’t update for 8+ miles while connected to CarPlay. I resorted to Apple Maps eventually. Ending navigation and restarting didn’t help. Killing the App from the iPhone did nothing.

    It wasn’t until I reached my destination and turned off the car then back on after a while, it then picked up my location and navigated for a 80 min drive without issues. It was incredibly frustrating this afternoon.

    My background permission is always on, live activities, bluetooth and location all on.
