ABRP repeatedly routes through exit and entrance lanes without leaving the motorway

On several recent trips using ABRP Premium with CarPlay, the navigation repeatedly instructed me to take a motorway exit. Instead of actually leaving the motorway, the route continued on the parallel exit lane and then immediately merged back onto the same motorway via the entrance lane.

These detours were unnecessary, as I effectively remained on the same motorway the entire time. Initially, I followed the instructions without questioning them, but after reviewing the route more closely on subsequent occasions, I noticed that this behaviour occurred multiple times and appears to be a routing bug.

My assumption is that these locations often experience heavy traffic, and some drivers may use the exit and re-entry lanes as a shortcut to bypass congestion. However, this is only speculation on my part. I wanted to mention it in case it helps identify the cause of the routing behaviour.

    Hi

    We have this behaviour from time to time because we have live traffic info for highways and not for ramps. So if there is a congestion on the highway, it might look reasonable to leave ramp and join it back because ramps usually have no live-traffic in HERE (our live traffic data base). Unfortunately, there is nothing we can do about it now with the live data source we have.

      At the very least, it seems like you could recognize that you will be redirecting the driver back onto the road they just got off of and offer an alternate route with the predicted time savings rather than making what appears to be a mandatory route change.

      I’m not sure, but I’m aware of this bug, and I still get caught be it, it seems that the next step guidance in these cases does not indicate that you’ll be getting right back onto the highway. Showing the next step as clearly returning to the highway would also be a useful patch until the problem can actually be fixed.
