ABRP Does Not Route to Destination Address

It is common for ABRP to “rewrite” the destination to a spot that is near the actual destination, but that is quite wrong in the “real world.” Some example destinations:

  • Gray Lumber Company, 3800 6th Avenue, Tacoma, WA, USA – rather than directing you into the parking lot at the address on 6th Avenue, you are sent past the entrance on 6th Avenue to South Adams Street, a side street to the east of the actual location.

  • Summit Veterinary Referral Center, 2505 S 80th St, Tacoma, WA, USA – the destination you are directed to is on the back of the building rather than to the actual entrance on 80th street. Coming from the west, ABRP actually tries to route you through a parking lot that is gated.

  • South Sound Endodontics, 2424 Mildred St W, University Place, WA, USA – this appears to be routed correctly, now, but when I went there about a year ago the route guidance ended approximately at 47.23796, -122.52638. Note that the actual entrance is off of 24th Street West, even though the address is on Mildred.

    Thanks - we are aware that we don’t have the navigation location for a point of interest, but we are looking into options for this.

      This seems like an important thing to get a handle on. Sometimes it is just annoying, but the other day I was trying to get to an emergency vet with our dog and the routing was to the back side of the vet’s building which was both inaccessible and the approach didn’t come close to the actual address, so it was quite hard to recover.

      I’m guessing that this is a hard problem, but in the interim a couple of things seem like they might help:

      1) A button to end navigation instead of ending navigation automatically. That would, I hope, force ABRP to recalculate the route when you keep driving because the route didn’t actually take you to your destination, and

      2) A button to force a new route – I think that this would primarily be used when you encounter a “physical” problem with the route, such as a road closure or an error in OSM, but it might also be helpful when the navigation point doesn’t take you to the POI and you want to force ABRP to try another approach.

    A couple of other thoughts…

    • Routing to homes and other places that I can’t remember enough details about, it seems like a common thread is that ABRP seems to pick the “point of closest approach.” For example, routing to my house, ABRP stops guidance on the street that abuts our lot, rather continuing to our actual address which would have required a right turn off of the abutting street.

    • Does ABRP somehow “remap” the address to latitude & longitude and then route there?

    • It seems like it would be really good to require or at least strongly prefer routing to a location that is actually on the same street as the “official” address.
