Zero SR/F ZF15.6

Zero SR/F ZF15.6

Charging profile and charging time calculation issue

I am reporting an issue with the existing Zero SR/F ZF15.6 vehicle model in ABRP.

The main problem is the charging time calculation. ABRP appears to take the maximum power of the charging station into account, but not sufficiently the actual maximum charging power of the motorcycle.

My Zero SR/F ZF15.6 has the Cypher upgrade and its current maximum charging power is approximately 3.3 kW.

For example, when ABRP plans a charging stop at a 50 kW DC charging station, the station may provide up to 50 kW, but my motorcycle cannot accept anything close to that power. Therefore, the charging time calculated by ABRP is not realistic.

I believe the vehicle model should use the motorcycle’s actual maximum charging power and, ideally, its real charging curve rather than the maximum power available at the charging station.

This is particularly important with Zero Motorcycles because charging capabilities can differ depending on:

  • Model year

  • Battery capacity

  • Z-Force 14.4 / 15.6 battery configuration

  • Cypher Store upgrades

  • Software/firmware updates

  • On-board charger configuration

  • Additional charging modules

Different configurations of the same Zero model can therefore have significantly different charging speeds.

I suggest that ABRP allows the Zero SR/F profile to distinguish between these configurations and use the corresponding charging power and charging curve.

For example, a Zero SR/F limited to approximately 3.3 kW should have a very different charging-time calculation from a Zero SR/F equipped with a higher-power charging configuration or additional charging hardware.

The same principle should apply to other Zero models and model years, because software/Cypher upgrades and charging hardware can change the charging capability.

My motorcycle configuration:

  • Model: Zero SR/F

  • Battery: Z-Force 15.6

  • Model year: 2022

  • Cypher upgrade: Yes

  • Current maximum charging power: approximately 3.3 kW

I would be happy to provide real-world charging data or screenshots from the Zero application if this helps ABRP create a more accurate charging profile.

The objective is that ABRP calculates the charging time based on what the motorcycle can actually accept, rather than the maximum power advertised by the charging station
