Read Live Data from BYD Cars
Hello. BYD EVs run infotainments with Android OS. So many users can sideload ABRP app to the car and use it on the main screen as standalone without protocols like Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. BYD after latest software updates, blocked the read data function of OBD port so now we cannot use OBD-BLE scanners to read live data. Please can you make ABRP read live data directly from car with android OS without the need of OBD dongles, like other 3rd party apps can do?

PinnedHi @Vangelis Filippas,
Unfortunately, whether BYD vehicles communicate data via AA or not remains for BYD to permit.
Apple CarPlay does not currently transmit any vehicle data. Sideloading the Android app does not allow telemetry transmission either.
You can, however, if you’re able to run the app in Android Auto - check with AA, given you’ve enabled the permission in settings. Read more in our documentation: Live Data via Android Auto
But you report that OBD has been restricted, do you know for which models? Would it be all of them?

I have a BYD Seal AWD and I have heard all of other Seal Owners complaining about OBD read data blockage after latest update. I also read posts that other BYD models start to block OBD ports too.
ABRP live data through Android Auto cannot work either because it doesn’t matter the way you run ABRP (mobile phone app or directly through car’s infotainment) as the OBD read data is blocked.
So I use other third party apps that are installed on my car’s infotainment and they read data directly from car like consumption, mileage, temperature etc etc… and i suggested that maybe ABRP app can access these data if it is installed on the car and there will be not need to use OBD-BLE adapters, plus the fact that the data will be more accurate, stable and fast transmitted that the bluetooth connection of the dongles.

Okay, we’ll try to keep track of this.
Live Data via Android Auto does not utilize any OBD as explained in the documentation article.
There is also a ticket for Enode support for BYD vehicles but as far as we know, the support is limited and would cause issues such as having users logged out of the BYD app.

i hope you can find a solution to this. I don’t think this is an issue at all because there are a lot of apps that read data from BYD cars directly through car’s sensors and chips without the need of cables, or dongles, or wireless connection etc. Also after 1 year of using ABRP on my car’s infotainment there was never an issue of logged out of BYD app.

Using ABRP on your car’s infotainment is not at all the same as linking your vehicle via Enode to ABRP. Only in the latter case is the BYD API involved and thereby possibly the BYD app affected. :)

Right now we know BYD Sealion 7, BYD Seal I and BYD Seal have had their OBD data encrypted. It seems like something intentional as BYD Sealion has been this way for now than 6 months.
I proposed to allow for Enode connection as they state in their web that this connection causes byd app to log out, but maybe that's acceptable for some users. If I understand correctly, enode may cause some log outs from the app but enode can manage itself to connect again, and it's easy for us to reconnect Byd app. I don't know if it's a “one or another” thing, but from what I read from enode it shouldn't be

I tried using ABRP without dongle with AA permissions allowed but it couldn't read SoC, it just stays at whatever level you choose and selecting automatic parameter doesn't change anything. I'm in ABRP 6.2 beta
