2014 Nissan e-NV200 40kWh

Hi, I have recently installed four 12.5kWh modules in the pack of my 2014 e-NV200, giving it a total of 50kWh nominal capacity — a huge upgrade from its original 24kWh (on 80% SOH).

I reckon there’ll be increasing numbers of Nismos on the road with increased-capacity packs. I think it’d be a hiding to nowhere to create new “vehicles” for every mod; but perhaps you could add a tweakable battery-capacity parameter, whereby the user could select anything between 24kWh up to (perhaps) 100kWh (for some future-proofing of your lists).

My high-capacity modules are from VIVNE in China — who claims to have sold 500 sets to owners of Leafs and e-NV200s.

tl;dr

There are likely to be some tweaks to the fast-charging curve, and OMG we’d really be on a hiding to nowhere if you allowed owners to upload a charging curve! But! I doubt there’d be much (if any!) increases to the speed-of-light of the fastcharging curve, indeed an early report on the VIVNE 50kWh module-upgrade to a 24kWh Leaf said they never observed a charging speed greater than 30kW. My newly-upgraded pack charged at 45kW (123A) on a 50kW fastcharger, all the way up to 62% SOC — so it definitely charges a bit faster than the original equipment, but it’ll probably still have the 48kW (2C) limit on its charging rate (if only to avoid overamperage issues on its charging harness).

Thermal behaviour is also affected, for obvious reasons… but AFAIK you’re not attempting to model the battery-overheating issues that hit Leafs harder than e-NV200s (which in some mods have the cabin A/C blowing across the battery pack whenever they’re charging), aside from recommending stopping as often as possible for top-ups on roadtrips.
