BMW I4 Battery Capacity Calculation
After driving a Polestar 2 for 4 years, I’m due to pick up a 2022 BMW I4 M50 and noticed when planning my long journey home, it suggested that I needed to charge way more than anticipated.
Noticed that ABRP reports the i4 E40 and M50 (which have the same size battery) as 73.8kWh, however the gross capacity of both models is 83.9kWh with a usable capacity of 80.7kWh to 81.3kWh (depending on the production year).
Not sure if I’m missing something here, or if the capacity needs to be updated?

Good news, thank you! The charging power might be wrong as well. The ABRP EV comparison page states 131 kW while it should be ~200 kW.

Hi
Thanks for reporting this. Some cars have different battery in different continents so that can be the problem. We will look at it.

Thanks - is there anything I can do to manually update the capacity or my region information to present the correct battery size? At around 10kWh off of the actual capacity, is makes route calculations incredibly inaccurate. Is there perhaps another comparable vehicle that I can use in the meantime for route calculations?

This has been fixed now, and I would like to take the opportunity to give you some early information regarding a feature we are currently working on:
Custom Vehicles
If we are missing a vehicle, trim, year model, etc. or if a model is incorrect, you can create/modify the model and instantly start using it.

Hi Linda, this value was correct (80 something kWh) until a few weeks or months ago. I planned quite a few trips with it. It changed to the incorrect value recently. Every model year is affected, since 2022. It’s not a different continent model, it’s an overwritten value.
